As a disclaimer, in my experience Japanese restaurants in the city tend to be expensive, so perhaps Blue Ribbon is in line with its peers. Overall a very good place with excellent flavors but pricey. Once they do that, however, the rest of the service goes swiftly. Finally, be prepared to wait for your order to be taken. It is a fair atmosphere, on the dark side, but not so noisy conversations are possible. It pairs dazzling sushi and sashimi with a multitude of cooked dishes, such as Blue Ribbon's signature Asian Fried Chicken, Surf & Turf and Salmon Teriyaki. We were there on a Wednesday night and the place was packed, I assume weekends may be difficult to get in without a reservation. Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill, located in the 6 Columbus Hotel at Columbus Circle, brings the Blue Ribbon experience to midtown. If you are a fan of sake, their list is impressive and some of them are quite tasty. If you like wine be aware that the wine list is quite limited and features mostly French wines, overpriced in my estimation. A side dish of roasted wild mushrooms was also very good. It is filling so you may want to share it, and it is salty. The house salad and the kale salad were very good and the portions generous. ![]() We were a party of six, most of the orders consisted of sushi and rolls which. My suggestion is to try other items in the menu. Raw fish dishes are very tasty but on the small side and the the price seems out of proportion. Wish I had ignored the hype and gone to Bar Masa. Oh and avoid a table on the "rooftop" It looks and feels like a kid's table in your grandmother's attic. Not exactly what you expect at a sushi restaurant but it did allow us to skip a late night pizza slice on the way home. Luckily we then ordered a spicy vegetable dish and fried chicken wings to finish our meal. He brought us another menu page that our first server had forgotten to give us and to his credit offered us a more flavorful dish to try. The manager asked how are meal was and we were quite open with him. If your only experience with sushi was getting takeout at Whole Foods, then by all means go here. We have eaten wonderful sushi all over the world and this place was surprisingly highly recommended. It truly would have been a better experience to order online and just have the dishes delivered to the table with no human interaction. Our server was barely there and had no suggestions about what to order or how the dishes paired with each other. Situated in the lobby of a wannabe Columbus Circle hotel, this place leaves you wanting much, much more, like a decent sushi restaurant. If you are searching for overpriced bland sushi, indifferent service and small portions, you are in luck and this is your place. It's also worth mentioning that it's hard to see a real reason to go down the review path on Bromberg restaurant number 8 if it's just going to be for a single star. There is a intangible at play this week that's going to push this restaurant to the bare minimum requirement it needs for a deuce. But, Eater is going to bet on the Bruni ex-factor. All available reviews on the restaurant indicate that it's a one star show-good, not great, in that Bromberg sweet spot of fresh sushi, great fried chicken and a damn good version of bone marrow. The oddsmakers have gotten the scenarios right today, with one star being the most likely outcome. The rest of this is going to be improvised. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows: Zero Stars: 5-1įour Stars: 25,000-1Historic data points include Blue Ribbon Sushi's deuce and Blue Ribbon Sushi Brooklyn's onespot. Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill, the Bromberg brother's latest iteration of Blue Ribbon, recently opened at 6 Columbus Circle.
